<p>`Planning a perfect vacation can be an exciting and rewarding experience. Botswana is the perfect destination for nature lovers, as it's mostly uninhabited, and where you can spot the Big Five (lions, leopards, rhinos, elephants and buffalos). In this guide, you will find the 10 Best Places to Visit in Botswana as an Adventure Seeker.&nbsp;</p><p>We decided to start our tour in Zimbabwe and finish it in Johannesburg (South Africa). We hired off-road vehicles, which are a must in this country. I only recommend tools I have personally vetted.</em></p><h2>Victoria Falls</h2><p>Victoria Falls is a spectacular waterfall located about midway along the course of the Zambezi River, at the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe. Botswana state is right below them, so I would suggest including them even though they are not technically in Botswana. The entrance fee is 50$ (updated to 2023) if you are a foreigner. It takes around 2 hours to visit them (prepare yourself to be soaking wet, so dress accordingly). We did a boat tour in the afternoon, and it was the most beautiful sunset that I had ever seen in my life. We saw many animals, including hippos, buffalos, and elephants. Additionally, a group of elephants were crossing the river, and we were able to get pretty close. Here the animals are a bit more used to being watched. Anywhere you drive you will encounter hundreds of animals. One thing to know is that, unlike Chobe National Park, the animals are not used to seeing people. It's easy to spot them, but once they notice you they will most likely run away. If there are cubs, they can become a bit aggressive. This makes it harder to take pictures, but I loved these lesser-known parks since it felt like the real savannah. One of the unique characteristics of the site is that the annual flooding from the River Okavango occurs during the dry season, with the result that the native plants and animals have synchronized their biological cycles with these seasonal rains and floods. The Okavango Delta is home to some of the world’s most endangered species of large mammal, such as the cheetah, white rhinoceros, black rhinoceros, African wild dog and lion. Here I strongly suggest to do the plane ride over it, at sunset. During this hour the animals gather around the river, and you can see large groups of any kind of animal. It’s not easy to photograph them, but is an unique experience. This is a different landscape, with fewer animals overall since it’s a desert. In Botswana, the Deception Valley is a typical destination where tourists tend to go. I would suggest when arriving to ask at the gates where the last animals were spotted because it’s harder to spot them. Elephants gather here at sunset to drink the water and walk around the tents in the campsite. The lodges are in front of the water pool, where at some point there were 50 elephants. During the wet season is not reachable, because it becomes an actual island, while during the dry season, the water is not present and you can reach it by car. This place is out of this world, as very few people reach it. Tourism is not present at all, and the only accommodation available is a campsite (that doesn’t even have the toilets). Here animals can’t be spotted, but the scenery is worth the visit. The USA is a beautiful travel destination, but you need to be prepared in order to fully enjoy this country. In this guide, you will find all the practical information that you need before going to the US.&nbsp;</p><p><em>Heads up: this page may include affiliate links. Visa and Documentation</h2><p>Besides a valid passport, as European Citizens we are required to sign up for ESTA, which allows us to stay on the US grounds for 3 months. It expires after 2 years. You can obtain it online <a data-mce-href="https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov/" href="https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">here</a>. </p><p>Please note that for each National Park, you have to pay an entrance ticket (for your vehicle). I advise you to get the annual pass, which costs 80$ and allows you to enter almost all parks. Keep in mind that the parks managed by the Navajos aren't included (such as Monumental Valley or Antelope Canyon). Additionally for almost all parks, you will have to book your spot during the high season, otherwise they won't let you enter in the park. This applies also to specific (very famous) hikes and paths, which have a limited amount of daily spots. You don't need cash, as everyone accepts credit cards (any type). The only places that I came across that didn't accept credit cards were the casinos in Las Vegas. To get an idea of the costs, I'd say is quite expensive to travel to West USA generally. In the big cities I paid a double room on average 130$ (staying at motels). Meals can vary a lot, junk food is the cheapest option. It's not a country where is worth spending money to eat out, I mostly ate out for brunch and had packed lunches/dinners.&nbsp;</p><h2>3. Transportation and Logistics</h2><p>Public transportation in the USA tends to be limited, therefore renting a car is the best way to go. We rented our car at the airport, you can rent ahead on the <a data-mce-href="https://rentalcars.tp.st/Uok6OqWC" href="https://rentalcars.tp.st/Uok6OqWC" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Rentalcars</a> website. Driving is not too complicated, but there is a lot of traffic around the cities. Around Los Angeles and San Francisco we were stuck for hours, so if we were planning a 3-hour drive, it could quickly become a 4/5 one. Speed limits are intercepted by the sheriffs, who hide out and are basically everywhere. Usually, if they see some kind of infraction, they turn on the lights and follow the car, in this case simply pull over and see what is going on. Accommodation in USA</h2><p>I booked all my hotels on <a data-mce-href="https://booking.tp.st/snlUHuUd" href="https://booking.tp.st/snlUHuUd" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Booking</a>, spending more or less 90$ for a double room. I picked mostly motels, which are very simple and essential, but clean and perfect for a typical road trip. However in my opinion renting a van/caravan is a great alternative. The States are full of campsites, that are very basic but placed in the best spots. For example the parks (Yosemite, Zion and so on) have campsites inside the park that are very cheap and perfect for exploring the park. When picking a hotel check out the reviews, to see if the neighborhood is safe. Some famous ones are Skid Row in Los Angeles and Oakland in San Francisco. Furthermore, homeless people have grown so much (in fact they are everywhere) but they are mostly harmless. From my experience (2022), Las Vegas was the worst city in terms of homeless people, as they were on drugs or would consume right in the streets. This place hasn't been touched by tourism, and the local government is implementing multiple limitations to preserve this place. To visit this island you can either take a ferry and book a tour to explore the island by car, or alternatively you book a boat trip. I myself suggest the latter, as the sea is beautiful, and you can stop at the remote beaches to avoid the crowds.
