Tucked into the Madonie mountains about 20 kilometres inland from Cefalù, it's a charming village with cobbled streets, small piazzas, and warm local hospitality. But the real reason to come here is the food — this is some of the best eating in northern Sicily, and it's all about the land rather than the sea.<ul><li>Historic Center — Stroll through narrow lanes lined with stone houses and soak in the timeless atmosphere. Castelbuono is made for slow wandering. </li><li>Castelnuovo’s Famous Panettone — Castelbuono is famous across Sicily for its artisanal panettone, made year-round with high-quality local ingredients — pistachios, citrus, almonds. A dramatic canyon carved by the Pollina River, with limestone cliffs towering up to 50 metres, emerald green water, and a sense of complete wilderness. It's part of a UNESCO Global Geopark and steeped in local legends. The other two islands — Levanzo and Marettimo — are part of the same archipelago and can be visited on boat tours from Favignana or directly from Trapani.<h3>Getting There</h3>The best bases for visiting Favignana are Trapani or Marsala — both have regular ferry and hydrofoil connections to the island.⚠️ Important: From 15 June to 30 September, the transit and landing of cars, motorbikes, and motor vehicles is forbidden for non-residents. Many of the best calette are simply not reachable on foot or by bike — the only way to see them is from the water. The water was incredibly clear, I could see countless fish even in deeper spots, and the tour took us to hidden coves that would have been completely inaccessible otherwise.
