Here are some essential tips:</p><ul><li>Upon arrival at Wadi Rum Village, park your vehicle and await pickup by your booked accommodation, typically via off-road vehicle.</li><li>Navigate the desert's vast expanse with a guided tour, easily arranged through local campsites or at Wadi Rum Village.</li><li>There are only campsites here, but well equipped with tents with beds (so you don’t have to bring your camping equipment). There are some luxurious ones as well, however I picked one that seemed authentic to me, that I highly recommend: <a data-mce-href="https://booking.tp.st/jPvi9loN" href="https://booking.tp.st/jPvi9loN" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Star Walk Camp &amp; Tours</a>.</li><li>Since there are many choices of campsites (from 2$ at night to over 150$), you have to decide which kind of experience you prefer. I personally looked for the most authentic one, that also arranged the tour for the next day (otherwise you have to get back to Wadi Rum Village). Furthermore I advise to pick a remote campsite, deep into the desert and far from the Wadi Rum Village, to truly feel the place. Diving</h2><p>The Red Sea has one of the most beautiful coral reefs in the world. Jordan has a small coastal line, where is possible diving or snorkeling. In my opinion, diving is a must-do experience in Jordan, as the coral reef is a bit deep in the sea. It is possible to dive even as a first-timer, as the diving certification is not required. As first-timers we dived around 10 meters deep.</p><h2>3. Petra spots</h2><p>Petra is a must-see destination in Jordan, however there are many paths besides the main one, and the site is quite big. I recommend a particular panoramic trail called Al Kubtha Trail that finishes above Petra most famous spot, Al-Khazneh. This trail is highlighted as “hard”, but I think it’s feasible for everyone. It’s 1.5 hours long (round trip), 1,7 km long. Jordan Visa requirements&nbsp;</h2><p>Besides a valid passport, as European Citizens we are not required to have a visa for traveling in Jordan as long as you purchase the<a href="https://jordanpass.jo/Contents/Prices.aspx" target="_blank" rel="noopener" data-mce-href="https://jordanpass.jo/Contents/Prices.aspx"> Jordan Pass</a>. There are three different passes (1 day visit to Petra, 2 consecutive visit days or 3 ones). This pass also includes entrances to over 40 attractions in Jordan. To get an idea of the costs, I paid a double room on average 30 JOD and a meal costs 5-10€ per person. I exchanged Euros in the first city I crossed, in a local bank (they are easy to find on Google). ATMs are also very common. In any case credit cards are not widely accepted, all meals and most accommodation required us to pay in cash only.&nbsp;</p><h2>4. Transportation and Logistics</h2><p>Public transportation in Jordan tends to be limited, therefore renting a car is the best way to go. You can rent ahead on the <a data-mce-href="https://rentalcars.tp.st/Uok6OqWC" href="https://rentalcars.tp.st/Uok6OqWC" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Rentalcars</a> website. Driving is not complicated, since all roads are paved. Some things to know before arriving:</p><ul><li>The roads are paved but it takes a while to move across the country, as highways aren't common. I picked very simple and essential places. LANGUAGE</h2><p>Besides speaking Arabic, locals speak English everywhere.&nbsp;</p><h2>7. Local CUSTOMS</h2><p>Jordanians are the best people, as they are very welcoming and warm towards tourists. In Petra, they were a bit excessive in selling you stuff, but besides here people were very kind and genuinely curious about us (Italians). Jordan is a Muslim country, therefore both women and men should dress modestly. Women don't have to wear the hijab (although all the locals wear it), and the "western" female bathing suits don't really exist here. Safety&nbsp;</h2><p>Is Jordan safe for tourists? I never felt in danger whatsoever during my time here. I wasn't worried about carrying my expensive camera with me, both during the day and at night. I wouldn't have long drives during the night, simply because the rural areas are very poor. Weather</h2><p>In Jordan, the winter season is very cold, and during the summer is very hot. Winter temperatures range between 9-13°C (48-55°F), while the deserts regions range from 19-22°C (66-71°F). In the Jordanian Valley, summer temperatures range between 38-39°C (100-102°F), while in the desert regions, they vary between 26-29°C (78-84°F). Rainfall&nbsp;is generally scarce, and occur from November to April, with a maximum in winter, between December and February. The best seasons to visit this country are therefore spring and autumn. I went at the end of February, and the weather was lovely, in the day time there was 22°C (71°F), in the evening around 12°C (53°F).</p>

I purchased Ucell's card, paying it 50000 Sum. It worked well and the service was always working. Please note: there are several internet plans that are offered, but not all of them will allow to use social media apps. Alternately, if your smartphone is abilited, eSIM is an option, which tends to be more expensive, but saves you time in the airport. Trains are best for long-distance travel between the major cities, taxis and shared taxis are for shorter distances. Travel advice Uzbekistan:</p><p><strong>Train</strong>: they sold out quite easily, so it's best to book them in advance (they accept VISA and Mastercard credit cards):<a href="https://eticket.railway.uz/en/pages/trains-page" target="_blank" rel="noopener" data-mce-href="https://eticket.railway.uz/en/pages/trains-page"> Official train website. </a>You can purchase the tickets only 40 days ahead, before then you simply see the timetables. The trains run very often, except for the Khiva - Bukhara route, which runs Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays. This route is also the only one which has very old trains, in fact it takes 6 hours to move across the two cities. The other major cities are equipped with high-speed trains (the Chinese ones).&nbsp;</p><p><strong>Taxis and shared taxis</strong>: I used them mainly to go from train stations to the city center and vice versa (train stations are located a bit far from the city, usually around 6 km or more). There is also the choice to take small buses, which have 7 seats, however they don't leave until they are full. Important to know: lower the price they ask. For 6 km route they can ask for up to 120000 Sum, at the end the cost was 33000 Sum. In order to truly save money the best way is to use the Yandex App (I read that it can be used with a local SIM card, however it still doesn't work). They helped us to exchange money and arrange taxis. Usually, these places are very simple and essential, and indeed very cheap, around 30€ for a double room. Nobody speaks English (even in guest houses), but with Google Translate I managed to understand the bare minimum. In tourist places is easier, as English is more spoken.&nbsp;</p><h2>money of Uzbekistan&nbsp;</h2><p>Uzbekistan is very cheap if you own Dollars or Euros. A short cab ride costs around 3€, a meal for two costs around 6€ (tourist places have higher prices). The Uzbek currency is called Sum. You need to exchange money as soon as possible since credit cards are accepted only in tourist places (which aren't many). Before arriving I wasn't sure if ATMs were common, therefore I arrived with Euro cash, enough to cover all expenses and hotels. ATMs are present in all city centers, with the usual commissions which tend to be pretty high. Women don't have to wear the hijab (all the locals don't wear it). I never felt in danger whatsoever during my time here. This country is an authoritarian state, but has a stable government, and safety is ensured. Practically it means that policemen are everywhere, and small crimes don't happen. Train stations are controlled (there are metal detectors at the entrance), and overall safety is ensured. I read that policemen could bother tourists, but Uzbekistan has drastically changed its approach to tourism in recent years. It's clear that now they see it as an opportunity, and try to treat tourists very well. Temperatures in December average -8°C (18°F) in the north and 0°C (32 °F) in the south. However, extreme fluctuations can take temperatures as low as -35°C (-31°F). During the summer temperatures can reach 45°C (113°F) and above. The best seasons to visit this country are therefore spring and autumn.
