Transportation & Exploration: The Algarve is well-connected by various airports, including Faro, which serves as the main gateway. Renting a car is highly recommended to fully explore the Algarve’s beautiful coastline, hidden beaches, and charming towns. The region is easily accessible by car, with a well-maintained road network, and scenic drives along the coast are a must. You can rent your car here. Public transportation, such as buses and trains, is available, but may be less frequent, especially in more rural areas.
Weather: The Algarve enjoys a Mediterranean climate with mild winters and hot, dry summers. Here’s a breakdown by season:
- Summer (June to August): Expect hot, dry weather with temperatures ranging from 25°C to 35°C (77°F to 95°F). This is the peak tourist season, ideal for beach days, outdoor activities, and water sports.
- Autumn (September to November): With temperatures ranging from 18°C to 28°C (64°F to 82°F), autumn offers a pleasant climate for swimming, hiking, and enjoying fewer crowds. Rainfall gradually increases as the season progresses.
- Winter (December to February): Winters are mild, with temperatures ranging from 8°C to 15°C (46°F to 59°F), though rain is more frequent, especially in the region’s hills and mountains.

Keep in mind that surf conditions vary by season: during summer, the best surf is found on the west coast, while in winter, the south coast also offers excellent spots. Spanning 12 km (7.5 miles) between Praia do Vale de Centeanes and Praia da Marinha, it can be hiked in either direction. While the route is relatively straightforward, its linear nature means you'll need to plan your return. Be sure to bring plenty of water, and avoid hiking during the hottest part of the day.

5. Discover the Ria Formosa Lagoon
