Additionally, I recommend exploring Porto Venere, located nearby and sharing a similar charm.</li><li><strong>Exploration</strong>: Exploring Cinque Terre is made easy thanks to the efficient train line that connects the villages, with departures roughly every half hour. To simplify your journey and save on individual ticket costs, you can purchase the <strong>Cinque Terre Treno MS Card</strong> online, which grants unlimited train travel within the area. While no ticket is required to simply wander through the villages, hiking the scenic trails between them does involve a fee during the high season, from March 16th to November 3rd. One of the most famous trails is the Cinque Terre Via dell’Amore, an easy and much-celebrated path that connects Riomaggiore and Manarola. Access to this particular trail requires a separate ticket, known as the <a data-mce-href="https://www.viadellamore.info/en" href="https://www.viadellamore.info/en" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Via dell’Amore ticket</a>, which also includes the standard trekking card — it’s not possible to buy a Via dell’Amore ticket on its own. Tickets can be booked online by selecting a specific time slot. Although the website states that the trail must be walked from Riomaggiore to Manarola, in practice, when I visited, people were walking it in both directions. This natural spectacle—waves of green, purple, and pink light rippling across the night sky—is most visible between late September and early April, when the nights are longest and the skies darkest. To maximize your chances, head far away from city lights—think remote countryside, national parks, or coastal areas. Some of the best spots include Thingvellir National Park, the Snaefellsnes Peninsula, and the area around Vik in the south.</p><p>Clear skies are essential, so keep an eye on the weather forecast and aurora activity reports. Cloud cover can completely obscure the show, even if aurora activity is strong. One of the best tools for planning is the Aurora app, which uses real-time data to predict aurora visibility and even sends notifications when the lights are likely to appear in your area. Set up alerts and be ready to head out at a moment’s notice.</p><p>Patience and flexibility are key—sometimes the lights show up within minutes, other times it may take hours (or a few nights of waiting).
